Hyundai Hope On Wheels Donates $75,000 Hyundai scholar grant to support pediatric cancer research at Los Angeles Children's Hospital

LOS ANGELES – June 22, 2012 – Hyundai Hope On Wheels® and Los Angeles-area Hyundai dealers will today award Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to Dr. Weili Sun for her work in pediatric cancer research. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is one of 42 recipients of Hope On Wheels’ 2012 Hyundai Scholar Grant, which supports principal investigators, known as Hyundai Scholars, who are pursuing research to improve the lives of children battling pediatric cancer.

Over the course of 2012, Hope On Wheels will donate $12 million to children’s hospitals nationwide for pediatric cancer research through its Hyundai Scholar Grant and Hyundai Hope Grant programs. By year-end 2012, Hope On Wheels plans to surpass $57 million in total donations to pediatric cancer research since its inception in 1998. Their partnership with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has lasted since 2004 where the hospital has received $461,000 in total funding from Hope On Wheels.

“The generous support from Hyundai will provide critical funds to jump start my clinical research project,” said Dr. Weili Sun, 2012 Hyundai Scholar, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “It will allow me to better understand how innovative epigenetic therapy can be used to treat children with acute myeloid leukemia.”

The $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to Dr. Sun will be officially presented during a Hope On Wheels handprint ceremony at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Friday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m., where colorful handprints will be collected from Los Angeles-area children to commemorate their brave battles with cancer. Every handprint ceremony celebrates the courageous lives of the children faced with cancer and brings Hope On Wheels’ community of supporters together.

Korean actor Byung-hun Lee will also be in attendance as a special guest. The star, who made his American movie debut as Storm Shadow in the 2009 motion picture GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, will be amongst the first Korean actors to leave his hand and foot prints in the forecourt of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The ceremony, where he will be joined with fellow actor Ahn Sung-ki, will occur on June 23.

Hope On Wheels primarily provides funds to nonprofit children’s hospitals across the U.S. for pediatric cancer research, and strives to build public awareness about the importance of this cause. The program is funded by Hyundai and its U.S. dealers. With every new vehicle sold in the U.S., Hyundai customers join Hyundai and its dealers in funding important life-saving research.

During National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Hope On Wheels will launch its third annual campaign to raise awareness about pediatric cancer and the need to fund critical research to find a cure. As part of its Hyundai Hope Grant program, Hope On Wheels will award 36 grants of $250,000 each to children’s hospitals across the country. Recipients of these grants will be announced in September.

"We see Hope On Wheels as a critical part of our mission at Hyundai,” said Mickey Pong, Vice Chairman of the Hope On Wheels board and owner of North County Hyundai in Carlsbad, Calif. "Pediatric cancer takes far too many young lives and impacts far too many families. We are proud to be involved in this effort to fund research to end this disease. We congratulate each doctor and institution receiving our grants, and commend them for the important work they are doing.”

Take advantage of these awesome service specials!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

"Finally, after 50 plus years of purchasing automobiles, I had my first pleasant car buying experience. I owe this to Lillian Kouri who attended to my purchase. After much research I decided to buy the Hyundai Elantra Limited with the technology package. Having visited two other dealerships with negative experiences I visited AutoMax Hyundai Del City. It was there that I and my wife met Lillian. There was no pressure put on us and I do despise that kind of treatment and is why I walked out of the two other places I visited. Lillian did everything she said she would do and more and accomplished the complete transaction with a most professional and courteous manner. She was extremely knowledgeable of all the different options of my auto and my communications with her over the course of a few days was superb. I was never left hanging with unanswered questions. I just completed a four day trip in the Elantra and am more than pleased with my purchase. I would recommend AutoMax Hyundai Del City, and Lillian, to anyone interested in an automobile purchase." -Gary

Walking Dead creator/writer Robert Kirkman transforms Hyundai Elantra Coupe into Zombie Survival machine

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 15, 2012 – Hyundai has partnered with Robert Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics and Kirkman's groundbreaking comic and best-selling graphic novels, The Walking Dead, along with Future US, at Comic-Con International in San Diego this year on July 12-15.

The Hyundai Undead program celebrates the release of the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic at the Future US booth on the Comic-Con floor where Hyundai will unveil a customized Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine designed by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and fabricated by Design Craft. Kirkman, Skybound and Hyundai will also give away a Hyundai Elantra GT wrapped in the cover of The Walking Dead 100th issue by artist Charlie Adlard. All of these events will be celebrated at the private The Walking Dead 100th Issue VIP Black Carpet Event.

Hyundai’s partnership with Future US and Robert Kirkman/Skybound seeks to expand Hyundai’s immersion into the Gen Y culture beyond music into other key passion points like entertainment and gaming. By infiltrating Comic-Con alongside Future US and the exploding popularity of The Walking Dead franchise, Hyundai expands the Gen Y conversation to include the new Elantra variants, Coupe and GT.

Hyundai Undead kicked off June 12 with the launch of HyundaiUndead.com and a four-part behind-the-scenes video series. The videos will detail the creation of the Zombie Survival Machine and showcase the car build from start to finish, ending with the unveiling of the vehicle at Comic-Con on preview night, July 11 at the Future US booth.

“The Hyundai Undead program allows us to interact with hundreds of thousands of film, comic, TV and video game fans during this summer’s ultimate pop culture event,” said Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “We can’t wait to unveil our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine, the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie apocalypse.”

Hyundai’s Zombie Survival Machine will showcase modifications including: a front-end custom zombie plow cow catcher with spikes, slatted armored window coverings, a roof hatch to allow passengers to shoot at walkers, an electric rear trunk to house weapons, all‐terrain/rally type tires, weapons storage compartments, a CB radio/PA system and much more.

Kirkman and Skybound will also be giving away a black 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT wrapped in the cover of the 100th issue of the comic featuring artwork by Charlie Adlard, longtime artist for The Walking Dead. The sweepstakes launched June 12 and will run until July 31. Enter the sweepstakes at HyundaiUndead.com, the Skybound booth or the Future booth at San Diego Comic-Con.

“I had a good experience working with Hyundai and Future US last year and I thought it would be totally awesome if a fan of the comic were able to win a great new car made even cooler with Charlie's artwork,” said Kirkman. “Designing the Zombie Survival Machine was just the icing on the cake. I’m very excited to see the amazing job they are doing in turning my doodles and ideas into a truly awesome car. I hope they will let me do a test drive before Comic-Con!”

Two other Hyundai vehicles will be featured at “The Walking Dead 100th Issue VIP Black Carpet Event” on July 13 at Petco Park in San Diego: the custom wrapped Elantra GT that will be given away on July 31st and a Kiwi Green Tucson. The private VIP party will be a fully immersive recreation of a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies.

Comic-Con attendees will be able to take pictures with the Zombie Survival Machine at the Future US booth, and get inside the vehicle to check out all of the features, including a limited run illustrated owner’s manual that walks drivers through the machine’s unique features and prepares them for the gruesome realities of the zombie apocalypse. The booth will also feature a Zombie Target practice area and a zombie costume contest.

Here is a great Summer car care tip: Protect car paint from the sun!

Shiny-car2

Paint does more than make your vehicle look great. It’s also the first line of defense against rusted body panels. Of course, the best way to protect the paint is to park the car in a garage. If that is not possible, park in the shade or purchase a car cover. The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down paint and cause it to fade. No one wants a dull ride!

Hyundai Elantra was named a best family car of 2012 by Parents Magazine and Edmunds.com

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 5, 2012 – The 2012 Hyundai Elantra was recognized as a Best Family Car of 2012 by Parents magazine and Edmunds.com in their annual list of family vehicles. The Best Family Cars of 2012 will appear in the July 2012 issue of Parents magazine, available at newsstands nationwide on June 12.

“Thanks to head-turning styling, a fuel-efficient engine, a long list of standard safety features and notably upscale options, the very popular Hyundai Elantra is a wonderful package for small families on a tight budget,” said Scott Oldham, editor in chief, Edmunds.com.

For the fifth consecutive year, car experts from Parents and Edmunds.com scrutinized hundreds of vehicles focusing on safety and reliability as top priorities. Each car was also judged on performance, interior, exterior, and family-friendly features. Every car on the list is equipped with antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and a minimum of six air bags. Plus, a record 14 vehicles recommended by Parents/Edmunds.com, including Elantra, earned a “Top Safety Pick” designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Vehicles (IIHS).

“Hyundai offers class-leading interior volume and family-friendly equipment in the Elantra, making it an ideal car for parents,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Additionally, safety is the most important aspect of a vehicle for families and the Elantra’s six standard airbags, state-of-the-art braking package, and electronic stability control make it one of the safest sedans on the road.”

The 2012 North American Car of the Year Elantra sets the bar in the compact sedan category, offering outstanding fuel economy and loads of comfort and convenience features at a low starting price of $15,345. Powered by an all-new 1.8-liter “Nu” engine, the Elantra boasts best-in-class standard fuel economy of 40 mpg highway. Elantra also continues to lead the industry in standard advanced safety technologies including a Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system to optimally manage Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Even with game-changing performance and safety features, the Elantra does not scrimp on design. It offers a “class-above” mid-size car interior volume and mirrors the fluidic sculpture design of its award-winning sibling, the Sonata.
