Hyundai
Hyundai Hope On Wheels announced the 2013 Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk in Maui taking place on Saturday, January 5 at 7:00 a.m. at Whalers Village in Kanapaali, Maui, Hawaii. After its successful national 5K series during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September, Hyundai looks forward to bringing its signature 5K event to Hawaii as the kick-off to its 2013 Hope On Wheels program. The event will raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and programs serving children battling cancer in Hawaii.

“We are thrilled to bring our growing 5K series to Maui for the first time in conjunction with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to benefit childhood cancer research in Hawaii,” said John Krafcik, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "Through Hope On Wheels and our partnership with Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children, families on Oahu, Maui and across the entire state of Hawaii will have greater access to critical pediatric cancer resources.”

As part of the 5K, runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this family fun event by either registering for the run/walk or pledging to fundraise. Participants can register online at www.HyundaiRun4Hope.org for $35 until January 4. On-site registration will be available. Children 2-12 years of age can participate in the 5K for a discounted rate of $10, which also includes participation in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Keiki Sprint just before the 5K begins. All participants will receive a race t-shirt and race bib, a commemorative medal, professional timing and access to the sponsors’ expo and the post-event celebration, where awards will be given to the top finishers.

“Our thanks go out to the Hyundai dealers, the company, and to Hyundai Hope On Wheels for their continued support of our institution,” said Martha Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. “Community support like theirs is essential in helping us provide exceptional and comprehensive care to families across the state of Hawai‘i and the Pacific.”

“As part of this 5K event, Hope On Wheels will also award a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to Kapi‘olani Medical Center,” said Mickey Pong, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Hope On Wheels Board of Directors. “On behalf of all Hyundai dealers, we are proud to award our first grant of 2013, along with net proceeds raised at the 5K, to benefit a partnership between Maui Memorial Hospital, Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children and the Hawaii Cord Blood Bank to support cancer research in Hawaii.”

Supporters who wish to fundraise on behalf of the cause can make a fundraising pledge and become a part of Team Hope. Simply set up a pledge team and you'll receive your very own fundraising page to jump start your donations. New Hyundai design kicks up a storm

Hyundai

Looks

The 2013 Santa Fe has been totally changed with a bold new style called Storm Edge. The smooth flowing sheet metal creates the impression of continuous motion, while the panoramic sunroof allows a tremendous amount of light in the cabin. The body coloured side mirrors feature a thin LED turn signal that helps improve safety, and the headlights are projector style with Xenon HID lamps. Fog lights are integrated into the front bumper and are standard on all models. The other change to the Santa Fe is substantial weight reduction. Hyundai uses 30 per cent more high-tensile steel in the unitized body/frame, lighter seat frames and interior trim and lighter suspension components, among other things.

In The Cab

A 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat with heated and cooled capabilities give this CUV a high level of luxury. The rear seats are also heated and feature a 40/20/40 split. An available 8-inch touch screen navigation system also provides video for the backup camera.

Safety First

Safety features include: seven airbags (dual front, front seat-mounted Side-impact, roof-mounted side-curtain with rollover sensor and driver knee airbag); Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS); four-wheel disc brakes; and Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Further improving driver and passenger safety is the Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hill start Assist Control (HAC) systems.

Power

There are two motors to choose from: a 2.4-litre DOHC four cylinder, that puts out 190 horsepower; and a 2.0-litre T-GDI four-cylinder with a turbocharger that packs a punch with 264 horsepower and 269 lbs.-ft of torque. The lone transmission is a six-speed automatic with shiftronic manual mode.

2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT NAMED “BEST VALUE” IN POPULAR MECHANICS’ 2013 AUTOMOTIVE EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Ahn

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT has been named “Best Value” in this year’s Popular Mechanics’ Auto Excellence Awards. The Elantra GT was recognized for its use of class-leading technologies, use of interior space, and competitive pricing. Popular Mechanics magazine covers how today’s technologies affect the things men are most interested in, including: their homes, consumer electronics, cars, science, computers, sports and current events and explains the way the world works today and into the 21st century.

“Of all the quality compacts currently available, most impressive is the new Elantra GT,” said Popular Mechanics editors. “The GT’s practical, wagon-like hatchback was built primarily for Europe, so it’s shorter than any other Elantra, but packs a substantial 51-cubic-foot cargo hold when the seats are folded down. That’s more than some larger wagons. Yet this hatch also shares some parts with Hyundai’s sporty Veloster coupe, so when the road turns into a twisty ribbon of fun, the GT is a willing partner.”

The Popular Mechanics’ Auto Excellence Awards recognize cars in 10 distinct categories: Car of the Year, Fun to Drive, Performance, Hauling, Luxury, Design, Versatility, Technical Innovation, Value and Fuel Efficiency.

“Elantra GT is a fun-to-drive, functional, five-door compact hatchback,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Product and Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Elantra GT is one of the latest examples showcasing how Hyundai is redefining the compact car and setting new standards in automotive design, efficiency and functionality.”

Elantra GT’s utilization of space makes the interior feel roomy and comfortable. Under the skin, the Elantra GT shares some chassis tuning and suspension from the Hyundai Veloster, making it a nimble counterpart whether drivers are on city streets or mountain roads. Coupled with class-leading technologies such as Driver Selectable Steering Mode, and impressive standard features like Bluetooth connectivity, the Elantra GT sits at the top of the compact car segment, and with a starting price of $18,395, it delivers this driving experience at thousands less than the competition.

Spooky Halloween Eyeballs

Eyeballrecipe
Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup butter, softened

2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

12 ounces white chocolate, chopped

2 tablespoons shortening

2 drops blue food coloring

1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Red food coloring

Directions:

  1. Beat the peanut butter and butter with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in the sugar and vanilla. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll chilled dough into small, eyeball-sized balls and place on 2 baking sheets lined with wax paper. Refrigerate for another 30 minutes.
  2. Melt the white chocolate and shortening in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each melting, for 1 to 3 minutes (depending on your microwave). Do not overheat or chocolate will scorch. Dip each eyeball into the white chocolate and transfer to the waxed paper until the chocolate has set. You can chill them in the refrigerator.
  3. Stir a few drops of blue food coloring into the remaining melted white chocolate. Make a round "iris" on the top of the cooled eyeball and press a mini chocolate chip in the center for a "pupil." For an extra spooky bloodshot eyeballs take a toothpick dipped in red food coloring and make squiggly lines on the eye.

The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Named 2012 “Compact CUV of Texas”

Ah
The all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been named the 2012 “Compact CUV of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). Issued at the 20th annual Texas Truck Rodeo near San Antonio, the award was determined by 50 leading journalists across two days of expansive driving.

“We are very pleased to hear that the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been named ‘Compact CUV of Texas’ for the first time,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “TAWA members have further confirmed the amazing versatility of this all-new crossover. This accolade proves that in a variety of environments, the Santa Fe will stay composed, safe and efficient.”

Comprised of 50 TAWA members, the 2012 Texas Truck Rodeo evaluated some of the industry’s leading trucks, SUVs and crossover utilities. In order to put each vehicle through its paces, the famed Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch, Texas served as the event’s proving grounds. With driving surfaces varying from bumpy pavement, loose gravel, slick mud, steep hills, jagged rocks and water crossings, each candidate stayed busy throughout the two days of testing.

“TAWA members overwhelmingly selected the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport as the Compact Crossover of Texas,” said Michael Herzing, TAWA President. “Crossovers are important to Texans as they need vehicles that deliver on comfort, functionality and reliability. Hyundai exceeded those expectations and had the best product in the category.”

All-new for 2013, the third generation Hyundai Santa Fe Sport was named the “Compact CUV of Texas” for the first year ever. Entered into one of the most crowded segments of the competition, the Santa Fe Sport beat out the likes of the 2013 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring AWD, 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0i Limited and the 2013 Nissan Juke SL Midnight Edition. Hailed by journalists for its blend of value, mileage, capability and driving dynamics, the Santa Fe Sport found its way up rocky hills, down steep inclines, and around sweeping back-roads.

With two days of evaluation, TAWA members judged the vehicles on a variety of considerations. Aspects from exterior styling to road manners as well as pricing, fuel mileage, and off-road capability were all taken into account. Voting was conducted anonymously via electronic ballots.

HYUNDAI DESIGN AND TECHNICAL CENTER CREATES “VELOCITY” FACTORY-TUNER CONCEPT FOR 2012 SEMA SHOW

Hyundaiconcept
COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 15, 2012 – Hyundai America’s internal design and technical center has created the “Velocity” factory-tuner concept for the company’s popular Veloster sport coupe. The Velocity concept proudly debuts at the 2012 SEMA show under the Hyundai banner. Velocity represents a joint effort between the Design and Engineering divisions of Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California.

The Velocity concept expands on all of the original Veloster concept strengths in an aggressive, no-holds-barred factory-racer design language. Huge 19 x 9.0 inch, HRE lightweight satin-charcoal racing wheels, tarmac-scraping lower body kit with generous front and rear brake cooling ducts, lift-reducing rear diffuser, oversized rear wing, and #1 racecar design graphic. While unmistakably racetrack-oriented, the Velocity concept retains the original Veloster silhouette, focusing on exponential performance gains and functional design cues.

“In creating Velocity, we were inspired to take the Veloster’s original concept strengths to their fullest expression,” said Chris Chapman, head of Hyundai’s Irvine, California design center. “Velocity gave our design and engineering teams license to take Veloster far beyond everyday production car limitations.”

The 1.6-liter, direct-injected Veloster engine received customized engine modifications by Cosworth, including performance pistons, rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, intake-charging design, fuel system and engine management. The new engine boasts more than 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque for explosive acceleration out of bends.

Matching the muscular exterior statement, Velocity suspension and braking modifications handle the acceleration capabilities under hood, with Brembo® 4-piston calipers and two-piece rotors, Bilstein® springs with monotube dampers, and Kumho Ecsta SPT 275/35R19 high performance summer tires.

HYUNDAI EQUUS HONORED WITH THE 2012 MOTORIST CHOICE AWARD

Ah

IntelliChoice and AutoPacific awarded the Hyundai Equus with the 2012 Motorist Choice Award in the Luxury Lifestyle and High Tech category. IntelliChoice and AutoPacific, both distinguished automotive research companies, annually recognize vehicles that deliver a compelling combination of high consumer satisfaction and lower-than-expected ownership cost over time.

“Hyundai has worked hard to create a vehicle that provides luxury car shoppers with tremendous value and amenities, and as winner in categories for Luxury Lifestyle and High Tech, demonstrates that they've surely succeeded in the mind’s eye of the consumer,” said Dan Hall, vice president, AutoPacific.

Hyundai’s flagship Equus successfully competes with the best sedans in the world, while adding a new level of customer experience to luxury car ownership. Since its introduction, Equus has outpaced its sales and market share expectations. The 2012 Equus features Hyundai’s most powerful engine ever, the new direct injection 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine. The new engine produces 429 horsepower and is mated to a new in-house eight-speed transmission providing Equus drivers more power and refinement.

“With a host of standard features and innovative technology including Hyundai’s most powerful engine, the 2012 Equus offers customers a perfect marriage of luxury and affordability,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “This recognition from IntelliChoice and AutoPacific is proof that our flagship sedan is a true competitor amongst the most sought out luxury sedans in the market.”

Hyundai Azera is a Stylish Ride

Ah
With the second-generation Azera full-size sedan, Hyundai is serving notice to a long list of worthy adversaries that it is serious about competing at the high end of the midsize market.

Hyundai has been here before — with the XG300 in 2000 and previous-generation Azera that debuted in 2006. Both cars demonstrated Hyundai’s ability to compete, but didn’t dent.

A renewed effort proves the new car may be on the right road.

“The previous-generation Hyundai Azera was a decent car, but it lacked style,” said Tom Murphy, executive editor, Wards Auto World magazine. ”The all-new Azera corrects that shortcoming. It hails from the Hyundai design studios with flash, sizzle, substance and proof there is no substitute for premium materials. The Azera serves notice to luxury brands everywhere that Hyundai aspires to be known for much more than great value.”

Wards named Azera to its 10 Best Interiors list for 2012. The big sedan has the same twin-cockpit design that wraps around the driver and front passenger as in other Hyundais, but dresses it up with soft-touch padding, faux carbon fiber around the seat controls and a center console that runs into a concealable storage cubby at the bottom of the control stack. Passengers in all four outboard locations have ample room to stretch out.

Standard heated leather front and rear seats keep everybody comfortable, although front passengers can opt for ventilated seats while those in back can block the sun with standard manual side window shades and a power rear screen. Nine standard airbags, including a knee bag, protect everyone.

Wards Auto World magazine named Azera to its 10 Best Interiors list for 2012. (Credit: Hyundai)

Technology abounds. Azera comes standard with navigation, rearview camera and Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition. SiriusXM Satellite Radio, HD radio and USB input for MP3 players bring in the groovy tunes. All vehicles are equipped for Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics platform that enables voice text messaging, POI Web search download, turn-by-turn navigation and monthly vehicle reporting. Like GM’s OnStar, Blue Link features an agent-assisted voice recognition system for advanced requests.

Owners requested refined style and they got it.

Hyundai says the sedan’s “Fluidic Sculpture” exterior style takes inspiration from “the mechanics of flight.” It is a beautiful car with a side profile that rises from the flowing chrome grille through a steeply raked hood and windshield, over the arching roofline, and gracefully exiting at the decklid’s trailing edge. It looks sleek and light — like a more expensive version of the Sonata. Which, I imagine, is exactly the point.

The rising rear beltline gives the car a unique element, as do the wraparound LED taillights, HID headlamps and 19-inch alloys. Rear fenders are sculpted in a way that almost hints at a ’58 Chevy Impala — muscular, yet elegant.

In every way, the big sedan projects the air of a very contemporary luxury car.

As stylish as it is, Azera backs up the flash with substance. In this case, a smooth-running 3.3-liter V6 that generates 293 horsepower at a high-revving 6400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5200 rpm. Any engine moving nearly 300 hp to the front wheels is sure to be a fun ride.

The six-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual control is almost as smooth as the engine. Fuel economy rates 20/29 mpg city/hwy — most excellent for a full-size luxury car.

On the open road, Azera feels much like what it is – a larger Sonata. The chassis is sure-footed over almost any surface, but can feel a little unsettled over the rough stuff. Some may find it slightly too firm for a comfy car, but I enjoyed it.

Steering is precise, if lightly weighted. The front-drive vehicle architecture can twist and squirm as full power is applied to the wheels, but electronic stability control, traction control ABS with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution keep everything in check. Azera does not pretend to be a sports car, but it drives sportier than you might imagine.

It’s easy to figure out to whom Hyundai is serving notice. Among the Azera’s intended competitors mentioned in press materials are the Buick LaCrosse, Ford Taurus, Nissan Maxima and Lexus ES350. I would add the Toyota Avalon, Acura TL, Volkswagen Passat and upcoming ’14 Chevy Impala.

The full-size “near luxury” market is getting crowded and the Azera will have to work to find its place. Sleek styling, posh interior, loads of equipment and Hyundai’s renowned 10-year/100,000-mile warranty should give it a head start. Price as tested came to $36,875.

How To Change A Flat Tire

Flattire

Tools needed: Spare tire, jack, lug wrench.

1. Park your car on a flat surface. If you get a flat while on the road, pull your car as far away from traffic as possible . Make sure to put on the emergency brake. It’s also recommended to put a block on the tire opposite of the flat tire. Put to use that fruitcake from Aunt Gertie you’ve been toting around in the trunk. Here’s a blocking example: if your right rear tire is flat, put the block on the front left tire.

2. Remove the hubcap. If your car has a hubcap, remove it so you can get to the lug nuts. Use the hubcap to hold the nuts.

3. Loosen the nuts. Grab your lug wrench and place it on the flat tire’s lug nuts. Loosen them up by turning them counterclockwise. The nuts are probably on there really tight, so you’ll have to use all your strength to unscrew them. Loosen the nuts a few turns, but don’t take any of them off yet!

4. Place the jack underneath your car. Check your owner’s manual for the correct placement of the jack. Turn the hand crank at the end of the jack to raise the jack until it comes into contact with your car’s frame. Make sure it’s touching a sturdy spot.

5. Jack it up! Start cranking the jack until the wheel is high enough above the ground to remove the tire.

6. Remove the flat. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel. You should be able to do it by hand because you’ve already loosened them. Remove the flat tire and lay it flat. You don’t want the wheel to roll into traffic during rush hour and cause a thirty car pile-up.

7. Slap on your spare. Take your spare tire and line up the lugs, or bolts, with the holes in the wheel and slide the wheel on. Once the wheel is on, take your lug nuts and tighten them by hand until you meet firm resistance.

8. Lower the car. Lower the jack until the wheel is firmly on the ground.

9. Finish tightening your lug nuts. These babies must be on super tight so the wheel doesn’t come flying off while driving to the tire shop to get the flat fixed.

Hyundai Grassroots Movement

Our most powerful engine is our spirit.

What started in 1998 as a grass-roots effort to raise money for a local New England pediatric cancer institute has grown into a powerful nation-wide charity called Hope on Wheels.

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 10, 2012 – Hyundai Hope On Wheels® will launch its 2012 5K Run/Walk Series on Saturday, September 1 at 7:30 a.m. at the University of California, Irvine. The 5K Run/Walk will start and finish at the center of campus at Aldrich Park, where the post-race Celebration of Life Festival will be held. All proceeds from the Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk Irvine will benefit CHOC Children’s Hospital, a leader in innovative pediatric cancer research and treatment.

The Celebration of Life Festival at the 5K Run/Walk Irvine will include food and refreshments, live entertainment, vendor booths and giveaways as well as games, arts and crafts, and face painting immediately following the race. The festival will also feature Hope On Wheels’ signature Handprint Ceremony and check presentation with doctors, patients and families from CHOC Children’s.

“We are immensely grateful for the ongoing support from Hope On Wheels and the opportunity we’ve been given to benefit from their second annual 5K here in Orange County,” said Dr. Leonard Sender, Medical Director of the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children’s Hospital. “Through Hope On Wheels generous funding, Hyundai is making a huge impact here in its own community and across the country.”

Runners and walkers of all ages and levels are invited to participate by either registering for the race or pledging to fundraise. Runners and walkers can register for $30 before Tuesday, August 21 and for $35 thereafter. On-site registration will be available for $40. Awards will be given to the top finishers.

"We are excited to once again host a 5K in Orange County that will benefit our longstanding partner CHOC Children’s, a leader in pediatric cancer research,” said Zafar Brooks, Program Director, Hyundai Hope On Wheels. “Bringing the entire community together to raise awareness and funds for children, parents and doctors battling this disease everyday is a key element in Hyundai’s mission. We invite the entire Orange County community to come out on race day and help support this important cause.”

In 2011, Hope On Wheels made its largest single donation of $10 million to CHOC Children's – the largest corporate gift in CHOC Children's history. Funds from Hope On Wheels are being used for groundbreaking pediatric cancer research at the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children's, using the latest advances in genomic medicine to provide more effective, individualized treatment for children afflicted with this disease.

Supporters who wish to fundraise on behalf of the cause can make a fundraising pledge and become a part of Team Hope. Rhys Millen claimed yet another world record and overall victory at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in a Hyundai Genesis Coupe Racecar

PIKES PEAK, COLORADO, August 12, 2012 – Rhys Millen claimed yet another world record and overall victory at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday. Millen set a blazing pace to the summit in his hillclimb-prepared Hyundai Genesis Coupe racecar, needing only 9:46.164 to make international motorsports’ most challenging ascent over 14,000 feet. For 2012, Millen’s own race team, Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), made additional performance enhancements to the current world-record-setting Genesis Coupe, the very same car that set the Time Attack 2WD record last year with Rhys’ father, Rod Millen, at the wheel.

Winner

“This year, it really came together for the RMR team at Pikes,” said Millen. “With the insights gained from the last few years in our Genesis Coupe, the team was able to make some high-impact improvements, leveraging additional downforce and traction opportunities provided by the new all-tarmac surface. And behind the wheel, my experience at Pikes Peak over the years allowed me to shave a few tenths from virtually every corner. Breaking the 10-minute barrier is something I've always wanted to do, and it feels great to accomplish this goal in 2012.”

Not content to rest on their laurels from last years’ victory, the RMR team held nothing back in race preparation for this year’s effort. Special focus was given to maximizing the grip potential of the new all-tarmac course and its considerably higher average speeds. A new aero package was fitted, targeting even more downforce to accommodate higher speeds and additional grip requirements of new, ultra-wide, staggered fitment Hankook F200 racing slicks on custom HRE lightweight wheels. The front splitter was redesigned for more strength and the rear wing was redesigned for additional downforce, along with a wider rear body kit for stability. On the power side, a new Garrett GTX3582 Turbocharger was fitted, yielding an amazing 700 horsepower and 700 lb. ft. of torque from the Hyundai V6 powerplant. To handle this extra power, the brake calipers were upgraded for extra thermal capacity, and additional cooling ductwork was installed to ensure optimal brake performance at the summit’s extreme altitudes. The entire car was scrutinized for weight reduction potential and suspension settings were further optimized for Millen’s unique rally/drift driving techniques.

Car

Rhys Millen Racing has been the team to contend with in recent years at Pikes Peak. In 2011, Rhys nearly broke the famed 10-minute barrier in his dedicated PM580 tubeframe hillclimb racer. In a classic father/son family effort, Rhys’ father, Rod Millen, set the current record in the same Genesis Coupe, having recently celebrated his 60th birthday, even beating a Porsche 911 GT2 RS. In 2009, Rhys had set the world record for Time Attack 2WD in the Genesis Coupe, the beginning of a world-record-setting dynasty for the RMR team.

Here is a great tip to extend the life of your vehicle:

Touch up nicks sooner rather than later.

Touch-up paint won’t adhere well to rust. So be sure to keep some matching touch-up paint on hand so you can touch up any minor nicks, often found around door edges, before rust has a chance to form.

The 2012 Hyundai Accent has earned a spot on Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com’s “10 Best Back-To-School Cars for Students.”

COSTA MESA, Calif., August 8, 2012 - The 2012 Hyundai Accent has earned a spot on Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com’s “10 Best Back-To-School Cars for Students.” Expert editors of the distinguished source for vehicle information praise the Accent for its fresh appeal, dependability and affordability.

“From funky hatchbacks to stylish sedans, all of KBB.com’s 10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2012 are affordable, safe and reliable, not to mention fun to drive and fuel efficient. Most importantly, these vehicles fulfill the often distinctively different set of new-car criteria of both parents and students, striking a healthy balance,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com.

Back-to-school can be a hectic time for parents and students, especially when car shopping is on the list. KBB.com editors have made the shopping job easier by naming the most affordable cars of 2012 based on the desires of students. In addition, all the cars on this year’s list are available for less than $16,000, according to Kelley Blue Book’s Fair Purchase Price, which shows the price others in a consumer’s area typically paid for a new vehicle based on actual transaction data and updated weekly for changing market conditions.

“Accent exemplifies the quality, reliability and value that young car shoppers are looking for.” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “With advanced technology, stylish design and spectacular fuel economy, the Accent is a great option for students and parents alike.”

Since its 2012 debut, the all-new Accent has been winning-over shoppers with its expressive and distinctive fluidic sculpture design, exceptional roominess, best-in-class fuel efficiency and an array of standard safety features. In addition to its all around reliability, the Accent’s recent track record includes being named to Consumer Guide’s 2012 Automotive “Best Buy,” Motorweek’s 2012 Driver’s Choice Award list and Vincentric’s “Best Value in America” list.

Ever wonder why your headlights seem to make it even harder to see in the rain or snow?

Well, researchers are in the process of developing "smart headlights" that prevent this from happening by anticipating the movement and velocity of the drops or flakes and shining into the spaces between them!

How cool is that?!

Hyundai Hope On Wheels announces 5K run/walk series to benefit pediatric cancer

Hyundai_hope_on_wheels

/PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Hope On Wheels® today announced a 2012 5K Run/Walk Series that will travel to three U.S. cities, in a continued effort to raise awareness and research funds for pediatric cancer. After a successful inaugural 5K event in Orange County last year, Hope On Wheels will return to Southern California to launch its 5K series in Irvine, followed by visits to Chicago and Miami as part of its ongoing efforts around National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. Net proceeds from the Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk Series will benefit pediatric cancer research programs at local children's hospitals in each of the three cities.

"As an avid runner myself, I am thrilled to roll out our annual 5K Run/Walk series to support the Hope On Wheels mission of finding a cure for childhood cancer," said John Krafcik, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "Cancer claims the lives of far too many young children and impacts far too many families. We look forward to extending our work with our Hyundai dealers as well as our race partner organizations to host and sponsor 5Ks across the nation to further fund research and help end this disease."

Race participants of the Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk Series can become a part of Team Hyundai Hope On Wheels and join the fight against pediatric cancer by registering online and making a pledge to benefit their local hospital. After registering, both race participants and those wishing simply to contribute to the cause can jump-start their donations by pledging one of six levels.  For more information about the Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk Series, including registration and pledge details, please visit www.HyundaiRun4Hope.org.

"As a father and grandfather myself, I can think of no better way for Hope On Wheels to further its efforts in the fight against pediatric cancer than by joining together and running for hope.

Dr. Morris Kletzel, Director of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Laurie Children's Hospital of Chicago said, "We are so pleased to have the support of the Hyundai Hope On Wheels program at our institution.  Hyundai and its dealers are doing more than just talking about the importance of pediatric cancer, they are making a difference with funding that is desperately needed in research."
